How to Add Twitch Chat to OBS

How to Add Twitch Chat to OBS

If you're looking to display your Twitch chat directly on your stream, OBS Studio doesn't come with a built-in feature for this. However, you can easily add a chat overlay using third-party tools like Streamlabs or StreamElements. These services allow you to customize and embed your Twitch chat into OBS through a Browser Source.

Pick a Third-Party Service

Several platforms offer free tools for integrating Twitch chat into OBS. Here are two popular options:

  • Streamlabs
  • StreamElements

Customize Your Chat Overlay

Once you've chosen your service, you'll be able to personalize the look of your chat overlay. You can modify things like the font, text size, and color to match the aesthetic of your stream.

Adding the Chat Overlay to OBS

After setting up your account and tweaking your chat settings, you're ready to bring the overlay into OBS.

  1. Find Your Overlay URL: Each service will provide a unique URL for your chat overlay, commonly labeled as "Overlay URL," "Widget URL," or "Alert URL."
  2. Choose Your Scene: In OBS, select the scene where you want the chat to appear.
  3. Add a Browser Source: In the "Sources" box, right-click and select "Add" > "Browser."
  4. Paste the URL: In the settings for the new Browser source, paste your chat overlay's URL into the "URL" field.
  5. Adjust the Dimensions: Set the width and height to suit your stream's layout.
  6. Save and Apply: Click "OK" to apply the changes. Your Twitch chat will now be visible in your selected scene.
